Window AC installations are a great way to improve the comfortability in any room of the home. They’re more affordable and portable than central air conditioning, and new technology is making them more efficient every year. This video shows how to properly install a window air conditioner to get the most out of your minimal HVAC unit.

The first thing to do is to gather the right equipment. Obviously, you’ll need the air conditioning unit, itself. You’ll also need measuring tape, foam tape, scissors, a power drill, and a multi-bit screwdriver. You can find all of these at your local hardware store.

Measure the width of your window opening to find the perfect model. If you wind up with something too big or too small, you’ll need to start all over again. Check the window frame for any signs of damage. If you put a window air conditioner in an unstable window frame it becomes a hazard to you, your family, and your neighbors.

It’s a good idea to have another person to help you install the window AC unit. Gently lift the air conditioner into the center of the window after you attach the side vents. You’ll need to measure and cut the rubber weather stripping for a proper seal.
